Where to go

There are plenty of places to go when on holiday at Prospect Farm.  Firstly, both Grimsby and Cleethorpes are within 10 minutes drive and boasts a whole range of things to do and places to go.

The Grimsby area:

Spurn Point a truly unique place in England. Situated on the North bank of the entrance to the River Humber. A beautiful place for bird watching, sea fishing, walking or just a day out with the family. With Spurn being a nature reserve, unfortunately there are no Dogs allowed at all.

The Humber Bridge. Until recently the bridge linking the north and south banks of the River Humber was the longest single span suspension bridge in the world. Construction on the bridge began in 1972 and the bridge opened to traffic in 1981. SOME dubbed it the "Eighth Wonder of the World" - others were less kind. But few would argue about the amazing engineering feat that is the Humber Bridge. It took more than 100 years to build it. Decades of wrangling in the town and county halls ~ and even Parliament ~ finally ending on April 30, 1969.

Grimsby Fish Market is recognised as being one of the most important fish markets in Europe renowned for the quality and diversity of its fish, together with its long established buying strength. Grimsby Fish Market attracts fish supplies from local, UK and foreign vessels, regular overland fish from Scotland, Ireland and other British Ports.

For a real nice place to eat, The Granary in Grimsby is one of the best seafood restaurants around. Situated on the 1st floor of the 200 year old Haven Mill, this award winning food outlet has operated as a Restaurant for over 26 Years.

Cleethorpes:

Pleasure Island Family Theme Park is the ultimate place to take the kids (and the grown-up kids too!)  It's one of the most popular places in Cleethorpes and is situated just 2 minutes walk from the award winning beaches.

For all the latest events happening in Cleethorpes and Grimsby, the British Resorts website has some good ideas. Browse the site to see.

Cleethorpes Boating Lake is a really nice place to go, weather permitting. Fishing is allowed in the Northern end of the lake at a small charge. Rowing boats for hire from March-October (weather dependant). Other facilities in the boating Lake area include Cleethorpes Paddling Pool and Children's Sand Pit with climbing frames. The Boating Lake benefits fountains, waterfalls and new pathways. Please contact Cleethorpes Tourist Information Centre for the paddling pool opening times.

Waltham Windmill. Take a step back in time when the bread that we eat was made from corn ground by the power of the wind. Experience the daily work of a miller who relied on the vagaries of the winds and see a genuine one hundred-year-old mill. Wild Flower Garden. Rustic style children's play equipment. Rural Crafts Units. Traditional tea's, coffee's & ice-cream. Restaurant. Museum of Rural Life and Miniature Railway.

With over 250 jars of loose sweets, 50 varieties of fudge, 15 kinds of slab toffee and other favourites like rainbow kali, sugar mice and over 20 varieties of lollipops (probably the largest selection in Lincolnshire), McMillers Sweets Emporium is the sweet shop to visit.

There is of course much, much more to see and do along the east coast.  The above examples are just the 'tip of the iceberg' so to speak. So we've added more links to different information sites below. This will give you a better idea and choice of things to do and where to go. We hope you join us at Prospect Farm Country Cottages and thoroughly enjoy your stay!
